Mo Willems is a writer (and illustrator) of picture books including the popular Pigeon series and a TV writer and animator including an early career stint for Sesame Street. I picked up The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog! on the recommendation of Daliyah Marie Arana. (At the age of four, Daliyah had already read 1,000 books. In a 2017 January 17 interview on NPR, she said that the book was her current favorite.)
The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog!
Pigeon takes an emotive roundabout on his way to sharing a found hot dog with Duckling. For his part, Duckling likewise takes a circuitous route to finagling a share of said hot dog. So while the end result is sharing, I’m not sure that young readers would gain much of an object lesson from the story. The illustrations are fairly simple but very expressive, aided by changes in font. The lettering is mostly very easy to read.
